Laundry Troubles
A while back, I posted my cleaning schedule on Facebook. It worked well for several months, but then, after Pascha, I fell out of the habit. I still, typically, keep the house somewhat neat and clean. Obviously, some day are better than others. However, there are two areas in the house that I have trouble keeping clean: the laundry room and the Master bedroom. The root of the problem in both of these rooms is one thing:
LAUNDRY.
The combination of cloth diapers and regular laundry forces me to prioritize, and if I am going to do this, the diapers come first. We reliably have clean, cloth diapers ready to go at any moment. Clean clothes… not so much.
It is not that we never have clean clothes. The problem is that the clothes live in the laundry basket.
The kids and I spend most of our time downstairs during the day, and the bedrooms are upstairs. This is one of the major deterrents for my being able to efficiently put the laundry away. But it is still no excuse… I could be doing it now instead of blogging, right? But I dread it…
I am writing this because
I NEED HELP.There.
I admit it!
Please leave a comment with the method that you use to do your laundry and put it away.
I would appreciate any advice at this point.

It’s Our Little Monkeys One Year Blogoversary!
Happy Blogoversary to Us!
This is just a quick post to let you all know that OurLittleMonkeys is celebrating our One Year Anniversary.
However, I will be spending my day changing lots of diapers and taking my boy to the bathroom many times because it seems our big kids have some kind of intestinal virus. Fun stuff!
Oh, and my hubby is gone ALL day.

Cloth Diapering an Infant and a Toddler
Up until now, I had been using disposables on Bunky,
but we are running out and it is time for me to transition him to the cloth diapers.Until Spunky is potty trained, I will have two kiddos in cloth diapers.

But why do I choose cloth diapers?
There are many reasons!
#1- Health
Cloth diapers are free of the many chemicals contained in disposable diapers. Disposable diapers contain Tributyl-tin (TBT), which is a pollutant known to cause hormonal problems. Dioxin, an extremely toxic by-product of the paper-bleaching process, is used in the bleaches used in disposable diapers. The EPA lists dioxin as the most toxic of all cancer-linked chemicals, which is banned in most countries. In addition, babies who are cloth diapers have less diaper rashes.
#2- Environment
Disposable diapers fill up landfills and take forever to disintegrate (an estimated 250-500 years), and the dioxins are leaked into our waters. In a home with a child in diapers, disposable make up 50% of household waste.
Did you know that the manufacture and use of disposable diapers amounts to 2.3 times more water wasted than cloth?
Those who use cloth diapers typically use all natural cleaners as well. This makes for cleaner waters that are free of the chemicals used in other detergents and cleaners.
#3- Cost
For a child who uses disposable diapers, the parents will pay approximately $1,600 in the first two years or $66 per month. My entire lot of cloth diapers, which I will currently be using for two children and then any more children we may have in the future, cost me less than $300. As for water usage, it costs approximately $1.50 per load to wash diaper (this includes the cost of soap, water and energy). So, even with the added cost of cleaning the diapers, I still spend much less than I would if I had used disposable diapers.
My Tips for Saving Water: If you can’t or don’t want to use cloth diapers, try taking shorter showers or flushing the toilet less frequently or making sure you only run full loads of laundry or dishes in the dishwasher. Even these tiny things can make a huge difference!

Deciding Between Children and the Environment
The biggest changes in my life occurred after I found out I was pregnant with Punky. I immediately started researching ways to bring my son up in a healthy environment. I considered cloth diapering, making my own baby food, and was dead set on nursing for at least a year. This was also when I began to buy organic food, and over time, I researched small ways that I can make our world a better place through recycling, using natural cleaners, driving less, and staying away from chemicals and processed foods.
Recently, I was very angered when my husband (who should have known better) sent me this article.
According to a British Study and separate study from Oregon State University…
In the United States, each baby results in 1,644 tons of carbon dioxide, five times more than a baby in China and 91 times more than an infant in Bangladesh, according to the Oregon State study. That is because Americans live relatively long, and live in a country whose long car commutes, coal-burning power plants and cathedral ceilings give it some of the highest per-capita emissions in the world.
Seen from that angle, the Oregon State researchers concluded that child-bearing was one of the most fateful environmental decisions in anyone’s life.
The article also discusses the financial aspect of childbearing and surmises that preventing the lives of billions of children would save our planet. But what about our souls?
The British study found that $220 billion, spent over the next 40 years, might prevent half a billion births and prevent 34 billion tons of carbon dioxide. The cost, measured in 2020, would be about $7 for each ton reduced, the report said — far cheaper than solar power at $51, or wind power at $24.
This is saying that a child’s life is less important than the money that would be saved through the government offering contraceptives and abortions. There is a climate activist who is quoted at the end of the article, who decided not to have any more children because he was worried more about climate change.
How can climate change be more important that a child’s life? The environment will never be more important to me than my children or anyone’s children. However, that does not mean that I won’t do what I can to make this world a cleaner, healthier place to live. But it does mean that when given the choice, I will always choose life. As Christ said, “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (John 10:10). I firmly believe that living life abundantly means investing in the lives of children, for they are our future. Without children, the human race does not have a future and either does the planet.
How could reducing 4,932 tons of carbon dioxide
be more valuable then these three lives?

A Product Review: Charlie’s Soap
I have been searching for a safe, non-toxic, eco-friendly laundry detergent for a long time now. I’ve tried many different brands, but was never completely happy with the results.

All-Purpose Cleaner: “Cleans Everything from False Teeth to Diesel Engines”
The slogan on the bottle had me from the start. I’ve mainly used the All-Purpose Cleaner for wiping down counter tops or cleaning up messes on the floor. But here are many other ways that it can be used:
- A Variety of Strengths: either full strength, half strength or quarter strength by diluting the product to fit your needs– great way to save money!
- Pet Baths: just lather and rinse.
- Carpets: clean just one spot at a time or use your carpet cleaning machine. It works both ways.
- Hardwood Floors: A few sprays directly on the wood and a clean, wet mop do the trick. You can also spray directly on the mop for intensive cleaning.
- Tools and Greasy Hands: safely removes pitch, tar and grease from machinery, tools and hands.
- Cars: 1 cup and a 5 gallon bucket of water makes for a clean car.
