Michelle’s Berry “Green” Smoothie

By | August 30, 2010

Green Smoothies are the rage right now–
and for many great reasons!

  1. When blended well, most of the cell walls in the greens and fruits are ruptured, making the valuable nutrients easy for the body to assimilate.
  2. They are full of fiber which is very important for good colon ecology and elimination of waste.
  3. They are chlorophyll rich.  It purifies our blood. It fights bad breath and bad body odor. It is an immune enhancer. It can help to correct anemia. It will rejuvenate your body.
  4. They give you much more than the minimal requirements of fruits and veggies recommended by the American Cancer Society.
  5. They are high in antioxidants and phytochemicals.
  6. They will help to bring down the acidity in your pH and make you more alkaline. Cancer does not grow in an alkaline body. In fact, most disease grows in an acid environment.

Question: (1) Can you taste the banana? and (2) if so, can you leave it out without affecting the consistency?

[P.S. - In case I've not made it obvious yet, I can't bear the taste of bananas  ]

OK I dont want to be the only wimp but that drink looks seriously hard core. I am going to try it. We dont really get kale here but a close cousin called “silverbeet” which I will try it with. I could use all the benefits of it.
If I make it i’ll let you know.

Mat. Anna- I don’t like the taste of bananas either, but you don’t taste them in this (I hate bananas, but I force myself to drink them in smoothies). You mostly taste the berries.

Alicia- you should definitely try it. let me know if you do :)

OK! I’ll give it a shot. (Although I don’t know if I can find kale around here yet. I live in a town of wimpy grocery stores!)

You can use collard greens, turnip greens, spinach, parsley, celery, etc. Any of those would work. :)
