Homemade Reusable Snack Bags

By | August 28, 2010

You probably know by now that I do not sew.
I so admire (get it?) all of you who do!
But after watching a super easy tutorial this morning,
I decided to try making Reusable Snack Bags.

1st Reusable Snack Bag
Here is my very first one…
besides the one that came out very poorly because I didn’t follow the directions- oops!

Homemade Reusable Snack Bag
And here are all the ones I made today!
They are a bunch of different sizes and fabric types.
I love the jungle print, so I am going to make some sandwich-sized ones out of it soon.

This can only be used with dry foods,
so I am going to research what I can use to waterproof the insides
(something environmentally friendly or else it defeats the purpose).

Even if you don’t think you can sew, try this out!
It is very easy and will save you all of the money that you would have spent on plastic bags.
You just throw them in the wash (inside out) and dry.  Easy Peasy!

They make those clear plastic sheets that you can place over your tables (my MIL uses one over her table cloths) that I bet you can find in the fabric store and I bet you could use those for non-dry snack pouches. I think other people use them on the BACK side of table clothes to prevent things from leaking through (you can tell how much I sew, too! But my grandma is a sewer and I’ve learned quite a bit from her!)

I saw these at a store this summer selling for $7 and thought, I could do that. I glad you posted the tutorial. I am going to have to give it a try.

You can totally do it, Renee. it only takes a few minutes for each one. Post some photos if you do :)

Too cute! And what a great way to use up fabric scraps! I’m getting inspired!

How about making them out of those pretty printed table clothes that are vinal or plastic reusable stuff? They were selling ‘em cheap today post-valentines day sale. You could put the plastic part on the inside.
