Several Homemade Pedialyte Recipes
By michelle | January 26, 2010
For times when you or your little one has a stomach bug and you either can’t leave home or want to save some money, try these homemade versions of Pedialyte.
Things You’ll Need:
- 4 cups water
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 3 Tbsp sugar or honey
- 1/2 tsp salt
Basic Recipe: Mix all ingredients together and sip on as desired. Refrigerate if a cold drink is prefered.
Flavored Recipe: Add 1/2 packet of Kool-aid to Basic Recipe.
Orange Juice Recipe: Add the soda and salt to orange juice mixed with water.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Homemade Electrolyte Solution Recipe
2 quarts water
1 teaspoon baking soda
7 teaspoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup fresh-squeezed or bottled orange juice
Directions:
Stir all the ingredients in the water until they are completely dissolved. The solution can be stored in the refrigerator for a few days, or for a treat to tempt a child it can be made into popsicles (an ice cube tray and toothpicks work well if you don’t have a popsicle mold).
Options:
Add a squeeze of lemon juice or more orange juice to each serving if desired for flavor (but just enough for flavor because juice has a lot of sugar and can make diarrhea worse).
Thanks, Lauren, for the link.
Helpful indeed, thank you.
When I was expecting the X-man, my midwife gave us a recipe for “laborade” but we just used Gatorade.
I work for Alabama A&M University as a member of the Public Safety Department, and I found your “7 cups sugar” recipe for pedialyte – thanks so much from the Police Officers and Security Personnel of AAMU. We’re going to try it for “Move-in Weekend” for fall semester the w/e of the 13th. It’s gonna be HOT down here and we’re ALL gonna be outside with bulletproof vests and 25 lbs of equipment giving directions and directing campus traffic for the various dorms. Water alone just won’t make it, and G-ade just doesn’t hit fast enough in that kind of heat. I’m also going to pass this on to the Bulldog football team and the Band Camp members who are practicing in this misery. The good thing is you can make gallons of this just by multiplying the amounts of each ingredient. Thanks again!
Thanks for this recipe. I know this sounds crazy but it saved my mother’s dog’s life. Since I was dog sitting at the time, you saved my life indirectly.
Am just coming off 24/30 hour stomach bug, and do not yet have any desire to eat. Flat ginger ale got old. So I’m on my 2 nd batch of this. Wonderful! Now maybe I will be able to urinate today. Know I am dehydrated, so will pick up fluids with this inexpensive, have stuff in the house already, recipe. Yhnx for posting!
