If Only This Little Guy Would Sleep
By michelle | January 14, 2010
Thank you for your prayers for our littlest monkey.
The RSV seems to be getting better and his double ear infection has definitely cleared up.
Now, if only he would sleep.
Last night I was up about every hour with him. He wakes up screaming, nurses for maybe a minute and then passes out again. But this goes on all night, and many times the screaming lasts a while before he will even attempt to nurse. I am not sure what is going on … I am a little bit worried that something else is wrong, but he has no other signs of illness or anything strange going on with him. Even when he takes naps during the day, they are short and he always wakes up screaming. Poor little guy. I hate to hear him scream like that.

He is currently installed in his favorite seat in the house, laughing and jabbering to his brother and sister. I don’t know what I would do without this little car. He loves it, and since he always wants to be upright, it is either the car or me holding him. He is such a sweet little guy and just wants attention all the time.
If you wouldn’t mind, please say a prayer that I’ll get some sleep tonight.
I feel like I am barely functioning today…

I am sorry, Michelle! I wish I had some words of wisdom for you! It is so difficult to be woken up so much at night. Are you able to sneak in a nap in the afternoon?

Whenever I have ear infections, there is always some risdual fluid in my ears. When I was younger I would NEVER lay down either with that…it’s bothersome!
I also know that the children in our preschool often act the same way with ear infections.
For me, I still get ear infections quite often in my adult years, I use an over the counter nasal spray (like afrin) to open up those tubes in my ears to get the fluid to drain. I don’t know that you can use that on such a little guy, but maybe there’s something comparable.
Hope that helped.

I was thinking pain somewhere when he lays…most likely ears…maybe teeth…

Pain, perhaps. In his ears, still?
I think he’s too young to be having the night terrors, which typically begin around age 2 or so, but it may be worth checking out.
Prayers for both of you!

As a mum who has had a child with chronic ear infections, I can firmly say that this is pain for fluid in the inner ear. The only thing that helped for us you may not want to do. The nurse practioner suggested giving our baby children’s benedryl, she gave us the dosage. It help open up the ear canals to drain the fluid. A more organic option is the old warm wash cloth on his ears. But, that one does not last as long. If it’s not that bad, then the warm wash cloth may clear it up completely. It does sound like his ears need a help along. My daughter’s ears did not clear up. We went through six months of exhaustion, all of us, then she got tubes. My husband had bad ears his whole life too.
