When Diapers Make A Mother Cry

Soaking Diapers

It all began on a Saturday.  The trips to the toilet, soaking diapers, accidents in underwear, sore throats, runny noses, and terrible coughs.
Our kids caught the Swine Flu (H1N1).

We decided it would be best to keep the children home until they got better.

Now after nearly two weeks of illness and two trips to the doctor, my children have never left the house and managed to contract a stomach virus from a family member.

Punky's Stomach Virus

Punky began complaining of a stomach ache first thing this morning.  I thought it was because he was hungry, but a little while later he coughed so badly that he threw up a little bit.  At that moment, I didn’t think to connect it with the family member’s virus.  In the afternoon, I put both kids down for “resting time,” and Punky kept saying that his tummy hurt. Finally, he came downstairs, went to get a drink and threw up all over the kitchen floor. A little while later, Spunky woke up early from her nap to tell me that her stomach hurt. Wednesday was the only day in two weeks that she had a normal bowel movement, and today the diarhea began again. I literally began crying when I opened her diaper because I felt so terrible for her and her brother.

Morning Update: Punky threw up in his bed last night and somehow managed to sleep through it.  Spunky woke up around midnight saying she didn’t feel well.  I took her temperature and it was only 96.8 (strange…).  So I had her sleep in our room on a makeshift bed on the floor.  She had diarhea again this morning.  They are both acting ok despite the virus.  Thanks for your prayers.

Please say a pray for my children,
not only that they get better but that our newborn doesn’t catch this virus.

I am praying too. So sorry for your sick little ones. Did you find the Canon to the Lord for a Sick Child? I’ll see if the text is online and let you know. In the meantime, I’ll pray it for your little ones tonight.
Much love to you.

Oh no! This is scarey to me…My mom gets low temps when she is sick. She said it’s common in people of Celtic desecent. A lot of people in my family have this. It’s a nervous system disorder. But, Spunky’s was probably low because she was sleeping and temps go down during sleep…Eek. My friend who is a doctor said it’s okay to not feed your children for a couple of days when they have a stomach virus, because it gives their intestines a chance to rest and reset. Just have them sip liquids and popsicles so they don’t get dehydrated. I’ll be praying.
