International Babywearing Week

babywearingweek

I missed International Babywearing Week by one day, but as I sit here with Bunky quietly resting in my sling, I thought I would share a little bit about Babywearing and why I love it.

What is Babywearing?

“Babywearing” simply means holding or carrying a baby or young child using a baby carrier. Holding babies is natural  and universal; baby carriers make it easier and more comfortable, allowing parents and caregivers to hold or carry their children while attending to the daily tasks of living.

Why Do I Wear My Baby?

I wear my baby because it makes life much easier.
I can go to church, clean, do some grocery shopping, cook, do laundry, type on my computer, go to the bathroom, and take care of my other children all while still having the use of both of my hands.

I love being close to my children. When I only had one child, I could hold Punky all of the time because I didn’t have to share myself with any other children.  But when Spunky was born, I wanted to be able to hold her and comfort her while still tending the Punky’s needs.  And now with three, I am stretched even more.  I usually wear Bunky during the times when the other children need me: all morning and late afternoon/evening.

I love looking down and seeing his precious face and hearing the sounds of his breathing.

I think it relaxes me to wear my children because, not only do babies have a soothing affect on me, but I am able to take care of everyone at the same time without feeling like I am leaving someone out or not accomplishing all of the things that need to be done around the house.

I love wearing my baby!

While searching for photos of me wearing my babies, I came across this one of my creative sister, Aunt Lu.  We were at the Bronx Zoo, and she put Spunky inside of her jacket, making the perfect baby sling.

Spunky was so warm and content, and one of my all time favorite photos
of her at that age came from when my sister was carrying her that way:

Awesome pictures..there is nothing as cute as a baby all snug in a sling! I, too, LOVE babywearing. I couldn’t imagine going day-to-day without it. I didn’t realize it was “babywearing week” last week…you’ve inspired me to search through my photos and post some of my babywearing favorites too!
