Pregnancy Week 37 Update: Baby May Be Born Next Weekend?

By | August 14, 2009

I went for my 37 week check-up today.  My midwife did have a few concerns:

  • rapid weight gain in the last week
  • high BP for two weeks in a row
  • lots and lots of edema (swelling)
  • however, I did not have any protein in my urine (sign of pre-eclampsia)

I am to drink lots of water and put my feet up whenever I can– haha! Putting my feet up with two little kids isn’t the easiest thing to do, but I will try.

Here are this week’s stats:

  • still at 2cm and 70% effaced
  • baby is at -1 position
  • NOT posterior (Spunky was, and the delivery was really painful; so I am doing my best not to recline and keep the baby’s back forward)
  • He is a BIG BOY- my midwife asked me how big Spunky was when she was born a week late (7 lbs 11 oz) and she said he will “definitely beat her”
  • He had a big growth spurt over the last week

Soooo….

Next week, she is going to strip “the heck out of my membranes” (her words, not mine) in the hopes that he will come a little bit early and not be too huge.  I had that done with Spunky as well, but it only made me have contractions; I didn’t go into labor until a week later when I was induced.  Also, my BP going up a little bit and all the swelling could end up being a reason to have the baby early.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My parents are going to be making the trip out to stay with us some time in the middle of next week so that they can be here in case the baby is born next weekend.  My mom will be with me for the birth and my dad will stay home with the kids.  We are really looking forward to their arrival!
Wow. So a bit stressful, but not serious from what I understand… however, you must be so tired! and it is hard to be so far along with two kids already! I have seen my freinds go through this. My love and small prayers!! keep us posted!!
I hope you can keep your feet up a little bit… *hugs*
Oh, it’s getting so close…. yes, it’s hard to get those feet up. I had to do that with Raphael towards the end too. Glad your parents will be there soon. Keep us posted!
Prayers. I agree, it’s so hard to relax.
So exciting! I am hoping the baby comes before we leave for Israel! We leave September 8th! It would be nice to hear the news and see some pictures before we go! Relax as much as you can! It’s all about to change agaiN!
If you have any headaches or visual disturbances of any kind,or if the oedema gets any worse, let your midwife/medical caregiver know *straight away*.
My prayers as you go into the last lap of this pregnancy, and looking forward to seeing photos of the new arrival in due course :-)
Keeping you & this sweet new baby in prayer.
Feet up, yeah, sure…bet that happens often. Hoping you have more chances though!!
I looked back through, thought I had posted comments on some older posts, but apparently they got swallowed in the internet. Technology is so fun.
I’m convinced that end-of-summer pregnancies are just like this. My first two (early Sept due date and Aug 31st due date) were full of fun stuff like this along with pre-term labor, high BP, and weeks of strict bed rest which resulted in two c-sections. My third, a March baby, was a piece-of-cake pregnancy and yet larger than my first two (I was supposedly “high risk,” but did a faith-filled homebirth). I have personal issues with providers who start putting “big baby” fears into mother’s minds before labor starts, so I’ll keep my detailed thoughts to myself there. :)
Can’t wait to hear the upcoming announcement!!!
