A Death in Our Backyard

By | June 16, 2009

A poor little bunny was killed by one of our dachshunds this weekend.

A week or two ago, the dachshunds almost caught the “Mommy Bunny.”  But, thankfully, she got away.

As sad as it was, it was a good lesson on death for Punky.  He had a hard time understanding “how” Reese had killed the bunny and why it wasn’t going to walk around again.  I think he kept waiting for it to get up and hop away.

We colored pictures for the Bunny, and Punky and Daddy brought them over to it.  If you look closely in the photo, you can see Daddy showing the bunny the drawing.

Spunky’s Bunny & Punky’s Bunny
(Yes, Mommy drew them; although, our kids are very artistically gifted)

My hubby tried to help Punky draw a bunny, but we all agree that his looks more like a pig or something.

How sad. We had a dead baby bird in our yard recently. :(

Gene’s grandma passing away last month was the first real death my children had experienced. It was interesting to say the least but very very good! They asked a million questions and some were harder then others to answer but it ultimately led to me teaching them alot about God and heaven. One funny thing that they assumed was that they would help bury her………Grace said that she was a very good digger and could help! ;)

How sad…we’ve had 2 bunnies pass away in our care, sadly. When you come, you’ll get to meet our albino bunnies: Fluffy and Snowflake!

I didn’t know you had attack dogs. Poor bunny. Good use of a teaching moment. You’re such a good mommy. I use your blog like I do parenting magazines :)
