Saying Prayers with Punky and Spunky

By | June 8, 2009

Every night before our children go to sleep, we pray the Lord’s Prayer, in each child’s room separately.

Punky has a large part it memorized, especially the ends of each line. Then we say a prayer to Jesus, where Punky is allowed to pray for whomever and whatever he wants.  This can be anything from “Grammy in the hopspital” to praying for his trucks.  But we always encourage him to be thankful and to put his trust in God.

Spunky also attempts to pray the Lord’s Prayer with me, but her favorite part is making the sign of the cross: in the name of the “Fadder, Son and Hody Spidit.”  She enthusiatically crosses herself and says a loud “Amen!” at the end.  Then she is ready to go to sleep, and she points to her bed.

I love praying with my children.  I especially love how Punky says, “I have Jesus in my tummy” (meaning his heart).  He tell me all the time that Jesus loves us.  I regularly ask him if he loves Jesus, and he always responds with a joyful “yes!”

That is really beautiful! My Mother did prayers with me as a child and they had a profound effect on my childhood.

Have a great night! And a good day tomorrow.

Hahaha. Jesus in my tummy. Too cute! Nothing as special as seeing your kids love the Lord.
