• The Day that Punky Pushed Our Buttons

If you know Punky, you know that he loves to push his Mom and Dad’s buttons.  He likes to see how far he can take things before he gets in trouble or even caught.

It all started at dinner on Friday night.  Punky decided he was going to refuse to eat.  Rather than do it kindly, he threw a fit and screamed at the top of his lungs.  My hubby sent him to his room to finish his tantrum while we ate the rest of our meal in peace.  A while after the screaming stopped, I went up to check on him.  My jaw dropped as I walked into the room to find clothes all over the floor and cream spread across the windows.  While cleaning up the mess, we discovered that Punky had also urinated on his clothes.  Apparently, since we told him not to leave his room, he relieved himself in there.  Needless to say, our buttons were pushed.

Now jump ahead about twelve hours to Saturday morning.  I thought I heard noises in the kitchen, but my hubby was certain he had locked the baby gate; so I ignored the sounds.  My hubby was going to let me sleep in this morning since I had such a hard week while he was away on business.  When he went downstairs, my hubby discovered that Punky had gotten into the Easter candy.  And it seems that he needed some milk to go with his candy; so he poured an entire gallon of milk all over the kitchen table and the floor. Punky then spent a long while in time-out while I began to clean up the mess.  If you are wondering how he got into the living room, our only explanation is that he climbed over the baby gate- a talent we were unaware that he had.  Buttons pushed again.

While the floors dried, I kept the kiddos upstairs in my bedroom.  I ran downstairs to switch the laundry, and when I returned, I caught Punky pouring my bottle of water all over Spunky and the carpet in my bedroom.  Buttons pushed a third time… and Punky spent a long time just sitting quietly on my bedroom floor.

Lunchtime came and went.  Stickers appeared in places where they shouldn’t have and they were promptly cleaned up by Punky.  Buttons softly pushed.

Then it was time for Spunky to take her nap.  I took her upstairs to put her down and when I returned to the kitchen, Punky had taken the mop and had mopped the floor with the dirty water left in the pail.  He told me he was not being bad, but “trying to be helpful.”  Do I believe him??  I’m not sure. But either way, it pushed my buttons for the last time today.  And he has spent the afternoon calmly playing with blocks and watching Scooby-Doo.  Well, that is after he spent a while in time out… again.
